Máximapark by West 8 Founded by Adriaan Geuze, West 8 Landscape Architects secured victory in a 2016 competition for the design of Máximapark, which was successfully completed in 2020 to complement the development of a new neighborhood in Utrecht. Among the noteworthy features of the park is a striking 6m high precast concrete honeycomb pergola. However, it was the ParkPavilion that left the most indelible impression on me. Life Between Buildings

Jan Gehr - Life Between Buildings: Using Public Space Gehr suggests that many cities built since the start of the 20th Century have at a detrimental effect on the quantity and quality of human interactions. A primary factor in this was designing around the automobile, and secondary to this is; form over function. Great plazas and tiered areas where build that dwarfs the human scale. Gehr explains that there are three types of human interaction: Necessary (eg. work, school, shopping) Optional activities resultant activists (eg. sitting sunbathing, strolling) Social activities (eg. play, conversations, communal activities) Creating space for contact, from high intensity to low: close friend, friends, acquaintance, chance, passive (see and hear).
